• There are four different profiles available depending on the look you desire. You are only limited by your imagination.

• These options are: Double Standing Seam, Angle Seam, Roll Seam and Roll Cap.

• Consider whether you have the trays fixed directly to the roof purlins, or

•  if you would prefer to have the roof lined with a substrate of plywood, and the trays laid over this.

• The latter being a superior result as the trays lying on a solid structure, there is no chance of sagging of the tray. It also offers further bracing to the frame of the building.

• Tray roofing allows for greater flexibility in design than any other metal cladding.

• Check that the product and installation have been tested and approved to the Building Code method E2.

• Your local council will also need to approve.

Intstallation

There is a high level of attention to detail required when installing this product. When looking at companies for installation, ask who will be involved and how they will work with you and your architect to produce an excellent outcome. The trays need to be installed by quality craftsmen and should be approved installers of the product that you choose.

As there is additional detail required, it will take considerably longer to install than a standard corrugated iron roof.

There are more components used in the installation of the trays with hidden fixings and more intricate flashing details required to ensure that the trays are weathertight.

The preparation of the trays can be done on site (avoiding freight damage), this can be done in a garage or shed so that on wet days there is still work that can be done.

A superior finish of the work will include full flashing details, drip edge, 2 piece ridging, and 2 piece barges.

Additional flashings may be required for high wind zones. The added benefit to the full flashing details is that you will have a quality finish in relation to the appearance of the roof as these flashing will greatly reduce the effect of oil canning. Oil canning is the appearance of ripples in each of the trays, which can be caused by too much pressure put on the fixings, hence causing the iron to ripple.

When getting quotes for the installation of a tray roof or tray wall cladding, it pays to ensure you are comparing apples with apples taking special notice of the flashing details. Also check what installation and product warranties are being offered.
